from the legend of the great outlaw Pintea Viteazul, who is said

Wooden
churches are true technical and artistical masterpieces,
built by masters from Maramures, internationally renowned for
their craftsmanship. Representative for Maramures is the wooden
church from Surdesti, the tallest in Europe. The "Happy Cemetery" ("Cimitirul Vesel")
from Sapanta is characterized by the macabre humour used in the
texts that accompany the crosses of the tombs.
